LITERATURE

  • Ionization Potential Table: A partial list of Ionization potentials for various compounds. Useful as a guide to deciding what mode or detection would be needed to measure constituents of interest.
  • Detector Comparison Table: A brief description of the different GC detectors that are being used.
  • White Paper on the DBD: A summary of the principles of the DBD.
  • DBD Principles: A summary of the advantages of the DBD as a detector source and a summary of how DBD detectors are built.
  • GC Fundamentals: For someone just starting out, this is our introduction to what GC is. For a practitioner, this is a review.

USEFUL BOOKS

  • Static Headspace-Gas Chromatography, Theory & Practice (B. Kolb & L. Ettre) Wiley-VCH, 1998. Available from Restek. An excellent book on headspace GC.
  • Process Gas Chromatography (R. Annino & R. Villalobos) Instrument Society of America, 1992. An in-depth discussion of process GC including valves, detectors, configurations, data handling and maintenance.
  • Chromatographic Detectors:> Design, Function and Operation (R. P. W. Scott) Marcel Dekker, 1996. Available from Restek. A good discussion of LC and GC detectors but not as good (in our opinion) as....
  • Detectors for Capillary Chromatography (Ed. H. H. Hill & D. G. McMinn) John Wiley and Sons, 1992. A discussion of the most common (and a few uncommon) detectors used in capillary gas chromatography. If you are going to get one detector book, in out opinion, get this one!
